I found out about Robin Williams death about two weeks ago. I have had time to sit and ponder, why his death has really taken a toil on me, heck even my family.
It shocks me that a man that brought so many laughs to this world, really just needed one for himself. I feel like a piece of my childhood left with him. I can honestly say Robin didn't give me to many laughs, but, the man showed me the kind of human being I want to be, or was a great example of a good person.
The movies that Robin stared in that stick out in my mind are "Patch Adams" (Patch Adams), "Mrs .Doughfire" (Daniel Hillard), "Awakening" (Dr. Melcome Sayer), and "The Dead Poets Society". In each of these movies Robin left a mark on me.
Patch Adams made me want to go into the medical field. Yes, for a long time i though I wanted to go into it just to help people. Isn't that what everyone goes in for? I just know that you can't save everyone, but what you can do is try to make them comfortable, and put a smile on there face as much as possible while they still have time on this great Earth. I think that is what Patch Adams is all about. He knew that the patients he had, he couldn't save every on of them, but he made them have the best gift of all, being able to smile.
Daniel Hillard taught me what a dad should be like. My dad wasn't very present in my life, but though Robin Williams I learned what a dad should be like. He should try no matter the problems or "road blocks" a good dad wants to be with his kids.
Awakening is just such a touching movie about people that have literally been "asleep" for years like 40 plus years, and finally wake up for a couple of months just to experience life, love, and happiness. Again like in Patch Adams, he didn't set out to cure them as much as to let then be happy and comfortable.
Last, Robin William plays a professor in the dead poets society. The movie is quite touching, but, Robin has a line in the movie which states ""The powerful play goes on.... and you may contribute a verse" wow. That is just such a deep thought. when it says a powerful play talking about life. Form the beginning till the end of the world look at it as just one big play. and you are just one verse in that play. I look at this as, what do you want your verse to say? Just something simple or something memorable?
I know that Robin Williams didn't write these lines, some he is just a character portraying a real life person, but still he touched my heart by each of these characters.
